The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 367 new COVID-19 cases and two deaths today's update (April 12), which is the first update since Friday.
The two deaths reported today include a Barrie and an Essa resident, both were between 65 and 79 years old and both died on April 9. One of the cases was linked to an outbreak at a rental/leasing facility.
Last week the health unit reported 650 new cases between April 4 and 10, which is the highest number of cases recorded in a single week since the pandemic. The previous record was 495 cases during the week of Jan. 3-9.
There are 1,048 active, lab-confirmed cases in the region, most of which are in Simcoe County.
The health unit has reported 1,861 variant cases confirmed to date, with 525 of those cases still active.
Since the start of the pandemic, the local health unit has confirmed 8,779 cases of COVID-19 with 7,386 of those cases recovered and 210 cases ending in death.
There are 40 people from Simcoe County and one person from Muskoka hospitalized with COVID-19, which includes five new hospitalizations since Friday.
The health unit has administered 121,972 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 in Simcoe Muskoka, with 1,159 doses given yesterday.
The new cases reported in Simcoe County and Muskoka District today include (case transmission is under investigation unless otherwise specified):
- Collingwood (4): One youth under 18, two people between 18 and 34 years old, and one person between 45 and 64 years old. Two cases are linked to close contact.
- Wasaga Beach (12): One youth under 18 years old, two people between 18 and 34 years old, one person between 35 and 44 years old, four people between 45 and 64 years old, three people between 65 and 79 years old and one person over 79 years old. Four cases are linked to close contact.
- Clearview (3): One youth under 18 years old, one person between 18 and 34 years old, and one person between 45 and 64 years old. One case is attributed to community transmission.
- Barrie (86): Thirteen youth under 18 years old, 35 people between 18 and 34 years old, 18 people between 35 and 44 years old, and 20 people between 45 and 64 years old. Fifteen cases are linked to close contact, eight are attributed to community transmission, and three are outbreak-related.
- Springwater (3): One person between 18 and 34 years old and two people between 45 and 64 years old. One case is listed as community-acquired.
- Innisfil (35): Five youth under 18 years old, 11 people between 18 and 34 years old, five people between 35 and 44 years old, eight between 45 and 64 years old, and one person over 79 years old. Two cases are attributed to community transmission, two are outbreak-related and two are linked to close contact.
- Bradford West Gwillimbury (67): Thirteen youth under 18 years old, 16 people between 18 and 34 years old, 13 people between 35 and 44 years old, 20 people between 45 and 64 years old, four people between 65 and 79 years old, and one person over 79 years old. Two cases are attributed to community transmission and 15 are linked to close contact.
- Orillia (14):Four people between 18 and 34 years old, one person between 35 and 44 years old, six people between 45 and 64 years old, and three people between 65 and 79 years old. Two cases are linked to close contact and two are attributed to community transmission.
- Oro-Medonte (6): One person between 18 and 34 years old, and five people between 45 and 64 years old. Two are attributed to community transmission, and one is outbreak-related.
- Severn (5): One person between 18 and 34 years old and four people between 45 and 64 years old.
- Ramara (1): One person between 65 and 79 years old whose case was community-acquired.
- Midland (5): One person between 18 and 34 years old, two people between 45 and 64 years old, and two people between 65 and 79 years old. One case is linked to close contact.
- Penetanguishene (5): One person between 18 and 34 years old, two people between 45 and 64 years old and two people between 65 and 79 years old. Two cases are linked to close contact.
- Tiny (16): Four youth under 18 years old, one person between 18 and 34 years old, three people between 35 and 44 years old, seven people between 45 and 64 years old, and one person between 65 and 79 years old. Four cases are linked to close contact and two are outbreak-related.
- Tay (4): Four people between 45 and 64 years old. Two cases are linked to close contact.
- Georgian Bay (2): Two people between 65 and 79 years old. Both cases were attributed to community transmission.
- Essa (17): Four youth under 18 years old, seven people between 18 and 34 years old, three people between 35 and 44 years old, three people between 45 and 64 years old. Two cases are attributed to community transmission and eight are linked to close contact.
- New Tecumseth (48): Ten youth under 18 years old, 12 people between 18 and 34 years old, nine people between 35 and 44 years old, 14 people between 45 and 64 years old, and three people between 65 and 79 years old. One case is attributed to community transmission and 12 are linked to close contact.
- Adjala-Tosorontio (6): One youth under 18 years old, two people between 18 and 34 years old, one person between 35 and 44 years old and two people between 65 and 79 years old.
- There are five new cases listed with location information pending and 23 in Muskoka including eight in Huntsville, seven in Bracebridge, six in Lake of Bays, one in Muskoka Lakes, and one in Gravenhurst.
