LETTER: Tree-lighting a let-down

I attended the Santa Claus Parade in Collingwood on the weekend with my granddaughter. The floats, lights and marching bands were wonderful!

Families brought chairs and blankets to set up their own viewing areas. There was a large crowd and lots of excitement in the air. This was a great event.

After the parade, we followed the crowd to the tree-lighting ceremony. Santa, the town crier and the mayor were there. We all counted down and … the tree lights came on.

The town had installed a large Christmas tree with minimal lights and no decorations. The tree-lighting ceremony is supposed to be the finale of the wonderful evening parade. This display, I must admit, was disappointing.

Could this not be an opportunity for a community business to sponsor decorating the Christmas Tree?
