Similar to the letter from Jeanette Mount, I too would like to submit a letter regarding the proposal to keep the terminal buildings and add on a condo tower that looks "hideous."
That shoreline area is gorgeous and should be the most attractive centre of Collingwood. Imagine the development that could take place if the terminal buildings were removed. The views of the water and mountains are spectacular once those concrete silos aren't blocking your sight. Can you imagine a village similar to Blue Mountain Village in its place? A great meeting place with restaurants and shops that would bring people to the area, and also to the downtown shops as well (because they are so close).
I know many residents like the idea of keeping that concrete silo landmark, but think of Collingwood 50 years from now. What should our children and grandchildren live with and be proud of? Perhaps instead of leaving that concrete structure, the developer could build a small museum that looks like it with all kinds of exhibits, pictures, and film clips to honour the development of Collingwood over the years and the history of shipbuilding and the silos together.
I hope our town has the vision to do the right thing for the growth of Collingwood – tear the silos down and develop a gorgeous village on a blank sheet of paper.
