LETTER: Tall buildings can have a place too

There are places in Collingwood for six-storey buildings, preferably along transit routes to reduce traffic congestion, says letter writer

CollingwoodToday welcomes letters to the editor at [email protected] or via our website. Please include your daytime phone number and address (for verification of authorship, not publication). The following letters are in response to a suggestion in Collingwood's draft Official Plan to allow up to 6-storey buildings in some intersections in the downtown core.

I live at the top of the escarpment south of Singhampton and miss the "ship" being built on the horizon every time I drive down to Collingwood.

I attended the last "side launch" and love the mural.

The town has changed and grown and sound land use planning has "fixed" some errors. I doubt anyone plans to put six-storey buildings down main street or block the horizon, but there are many areas where such buildings would be fine and preferably along transit routes so more residents do not contribute to traffic congestion.

Take some advice from France, where sprawl is not permitted into agricultural land, where landmarks like Le Tour Eiffel are not compromised. Where communities thrive in towns.
