The following letter was sent in response to our story Council reluctantly approves Sixth St. tree replacement plan

All this talk of rebuilding, de-treeing Sixth Street seems to me a waste of taxpayer money.

The only group I see in favour of this plan is the local hydro authority. They wouldn’t have to hollow out the trees, similar to has been done on Third Street.

As a biker I don’t remember ever using Sixth Street when Fifth Street offers less traffic and now with new improved road conditions makes for a pleasant ride.

Re-surfacing Sixth Street with the current bike lanes, resurfacing the current sidewalk and keeping the mature trees would be my preferred choice of action.

Why do we insist putting bike lanes and busy vehicular traffic on the same roadway?
