The Wasaga Beach Public Library (WBPL) is launching curbside pickup of collection materials on Monday, May 25, 2020.

Library members will be able to borrow books, DVDs, educational tablets and even items like ukuleles from WBPL’s Beyond Books collection.

“We are happy to be able to once again share our physical collection with our community members,” said Pam Pal, Director of Library Services. “All efforts will be made to ensure that our new curbside pickup service is conducted safely for both staff and borrowers.”

To access the library’s collection, members can place holds via the library’s online catalogue, email requests to [email protected] or call to speak to library staff. Staff will contact residents within 48 hours to schedule a pickup date and time. Borrowers then simply drop by the library to retrieve their book parcels between the library’s main doors.

“For the community members who are suffering ill effects from isolating for two months, access to books and movies could be uplifting,” said Pal. “We are thankful that the provincial government included library curbside pickup in stage one of its Framework for Reopening the Province.”

On May 14, 2020, the Ontario Government addressed library service revision as part of its reopening of care, community and household services. Library delivery service has also been approved.

According to Pal, a plan for delivering books and other collection items is in development. She hopes to see delivery service kick off in June.

“Throughout the pandemic the library has been offering a host of online resources like ebooks and virtual programs for all ages, adding curbside pickup and book delivery will ensure that people who don’t have access to technology, still have access to our services while we continue to slowly recover from COVID-19,” said Pal.

The Wasaga Beach Public Library is located at 120 Glenwood Dr. on the shorelines of the Nottawasaga River, across from the Nancy Island Historical Site. For more information about library services and programs, visit the library website or call 705-429-5481.
