Two new COVID cases in Simcoe-Muskoka region today

The health unit has confirmed 10 new recoveries since yesterday

There are two new cases of COVID-19 confirmed in the region today, including one in Simcoe County. 

The latest cases include two men between 18 and 34 years old. One is from Bracebridge and the other is from New Tecumseth. The source of transmission for both cases is still under investigation. 

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit reported 16 new cases of COVID-19 this week, including one resident of The Pines Long Term Care Residence in Bracebridge. 

There were four cases reported in Bracebridge this week, including one that was originally assigned to Ramara. Previously, there was a single case reported in Bracebridge on April 16 and had not been any cases since then. 

There is another active outbreak at Mill Creek Care Centre on the second floor where an employee has tested positive for the coronavirus. All staff and each resident living on the second floor have been tested, and all test results were negative. 

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported a total of 718 coronavirus cases in the region, with 680 of the cases in Simcoe County. Of those, 660 cases are now listed as recovered and 37 people have died. Two people are currently hospitalized in Barrie. 

There are 17 cases of COVID in Simcoe County not reported recovered, including 11 in Barrie, two in Bradford, three in New Tecumseth, and one in Innisfil. There are four active cases currently in Muskoka District.

The health unit will not be providing any case updates between now and Tuesday, Sept. 8.
