Last week’s testing at Simcoe Manor has revealed two new resident cases at the Beeton facility, and one new case in a staff member.
The long-term care home has been in outbreak since Oct. 2 when COVID-19 was first detected in the home. Since then, 42 residents and 29 staff members have tested positive. Ten residents have died.
According to the home’s protocols, as soon as the residents developed symptoms, they were tested and placed under droplet contact precautions and will remain under these protocols to prevent spread.
“Both these residents tested negative on Oct. 16, but were immediately isolated and re-tested Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 when they developed symptoms,” reads a statement posted to the County of Simcoe website.
Last Thursday, 278 staff were tested as part of mass testing. The home has since received 195 test results back from the health unit with no positive results.
The staff member is isolating at home, as per the home’s protocols.
“The county continues to work closely with the health unit to trace the individuals' contacts,” notes the release. "This is a reminder just how terrible this virus can be and how it can spread despite best efforts. Please know we continue to work with RVH (Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre) to do everything we possibly can to protect residents and staff.”
RVH officials were recently brought in to manage the outbreak at the facility following a provincial order.
