Six new COVID cases reported in region today, all in Barrie

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit is reporting six new COVID-19 cases today and all of them are in Barrie.

No new local deaths were reported today.

All of the cases are under investigation as to how they were acquired.

They are two women, two men, and two whose genders are listed as “unknown.” All six are between 18 and 34 years old.

A case previously reported in Bradford West Gwillimbury has been reassigned to another health unit.

There are three outbreaks in Simcoe-Muskoka. One is at Roberta Place Long-Term Care Home in Barrie, where one staff member tested positive. Another is at The Pines Long-Term Care Home in Bracebridge. An outbreak was also declared at a food service facility in Muskoka. The health unit has not divulged the name of the business.

Coronavirus cases in Simcoe-Muskoka more than doubled this week over last. Sixteen cases were reported between Aug. 31 and Sept. 4. So far this week, 34 cases have been confirmed.

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported a total of 748 coronavirus cases in the region, with 707 of the cases in Simcoe County. Of all the cases in Simcoe-Muskoka, 669 are listed as recovered and 37 people have died. Two people are in hospital — one from Bradford West Gwillimbury and one from New Tecumseth.
