Rain, shine, and snow: paraders brave it all for drive-by birthday

Fellow golfers weren't going to let Betty Reid's 90th birthday pass by without a celebration

A parade of 55 cars led by local fire trucks delivered birthday greetings to a Collingwood woman turning 90 today in the closest thing you'll get to a street party in a pandemic.

Betty Reid is a member of The Blue Mountain Golf and Country Club, and she turned 90 today - a milestone her friends didn't want to let pass quietly.

Annette MacMaster helped organize the parade.

"Normally we would recognize this milestone birthday at a golf event/luncheon at the club, but due to the circumstances this won't happen in a timely manner," said MacMaster.

So she and fellow golfing mates organized a surprise party today - literally in between rain and snow this morning.

MacMaster said several neighbours came out onto their driveways to wish Reid a happy birthday.

"Round of applause to all the lady golfers from Blue Mountain Golf and Country Club as well as neighbours and family that came out," said MacMaster.
