Province confirms 148 new COVID cases today

Nearly half of today's new cases were reported by a single health unit

Public Health Ontario confirmed 148 new cases of COVID-19 today.

Nearly 50 per cent of the cases came from Peel Public Health, which reported 72 new cases for today's provincial update. Another 41 cases were reported by Toronto Public Health.

Over the last seven days, the province has confirmed 899 new cases of COVID-19. In August, the weekly new case reports ranged from 598 to 796 new cases.

There were no new deaths confirmed today. In fact, the province has removed one death (an individual over 80) it had previously reported as COVID-related, bringing the total number of deaths to 2,811.

To-date Public Health Ontario has confirmed 42,834 cases of COVID-19 and reported 38,741 recoveries. 

The average incidence rate in Ontario is 288.2 cases of COVID-19 per 100,000 people in the population. 

There are now 1,282 active cases of COVID-19 in Ontario, including 66 patients hospitalized with the coronavirus. There are 13 COVID patients in intensive care and eight patients on ventilators. 

Since yesterday's report, the province has confirmed Ontario labs have processed another 28,591 COVID-19 tests.

Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported a total of 716 coronavirus cases in the region, with 680 of the cases in Simcoe County. Of those, 650 cases are now listed as recovered and 37 people have died. Two people are currently hospitalized in Barrie. 

There are 26 cases of COVID in Simcoe County not reported recovered, including 18 in Barrie, three in Bradford, two in New Tecumseth, one in Innisfil, one in Ramara, and one in Essa. There are three active cases currently in Muskoka District.
