Public Health Ontario is reporting 361 new lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the province today, which is a 1.8 per cent increase in the number of cases in the province.
There are also 56 more deaths attributed to the coronavirus being reported today, and 260 recoveries.
Of the 56 deaths reported today, one person was between the ages of 40 and 59, 10 people were between the ages of 60 and 79, and 45 people were over the age of 80.
There are currently 1,025 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in Ontario, including 192 people in intensive care, and 146 people on ventilators.
The province has recorded a total of 20,907 lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ontario since Jan. 15. Of those, 15,391 people have recovered (73.6 per cent) and 1,725 people have died (8.3 per cent).
Today’s provincial update states there were 11,957 tests completed in a day and there are 10,811 tests awaiting results. There have been 459,921 tests completed by labs in Ontario.
The Ministry of Long-Term Care’s daily report states there are now 180 active outbreaks in long-term care facilities, with 2,703 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in residents and 1,677 in staff. The ministry reports there have been 1,239 deaths of residents as a result of the virus. Of those deaths, only 812 are included in the total number of deaths reported by Public Health Ontario.
There have been 98 outbreaks reported in Ontario retirement homes and 73 outbreaks at hospitals.
Yesterday, the local health unit confirmed four deaths and 15 new cases of COVID-19 in Simcoe County.
Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has confirmed 375 cases of COVID-19 in the Simcoe-Muskoka region, including 189 recoveries and 29 deaths.
The breakdown of cases in each municipality is as follows:
Barrie (123 cases, 61 recoveries, 8 deaths, 1 in hospital), Bradford West Gwillimbury (86 cases, 32 recoveries, 11 deaths, 2 in hospital), New Tecumseth (29 cases, 17 recoveries, 2 in hospital, one death), Orillia (15 cases, 10 recoveries, 2 deaths), Collingwood (11 cases, 7 recoveries, 1 in hospital), Innisfil (28 cases, 13 recoveries, 1 in hospital), Springwater (6 cases, 4 recoveries, 1 death), Midland (6 cases, 5 recoveries), Wasaga Beach (11 cases, 5 recoveries, 1 death), Oro-Medonte (5 cases, 2 recoveries, 2 deaths, 1 in hospital), Adjala-Tosorontio (7 cases, 5 recoveries), Clearview (6 cases, 2 recoveries, one death), Essa (7 cases, 5 recoveries, 1 death), Ramara (5 cases, 2 recoveries), Tiny (2 cases, all recovered), Tay (3 cases, 1 in hospital), Penetanguishene (2 cases, all recovered), and Severn (3 cases) for a total of 355 cases in Simcoe County, including 174 recoveries.
There are also 18 confirmed positive cases in Muskoka, and 15 have recovered, one person from Muskoka Lakes has died.
The case rate (including lab-confirmed cases only) for Simcoe-Muskoka region is 62.7 cases per 100,000 population. The provincial average is 140.7 cases per 100,000 population.
