Ontario reporting 421 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 today

Ontario is reporting another six per cent increase in lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19, or 421 more cases, since yesterday.

Over the last seven days, the daily reports have ranged from six to 11.6 per cent increase in cases.

The death toll in Ontario is approaching the 300 mark with another 17 deaths reported by the province and linked to COVID-19 today bringing the total to 291.

The total number of confirmed cases in Ontario is 7,470, which includes the 291 deaths, 3,357 recoveries, and 760 patients hospitalized. There are 203 patients in Ontario currently on ventilators.

Ontario is reporting 108,230 people have been tested for the virus and there are 1,534 tests still awaiting results.

There are now 89 outbreaks reported in long-term care homes, and 24 outbreaks confirmed at Ontario hospitals. There are 741 cases reported in patients at long-term care homes, and 56 in patients at hospitals. There are 430 COVID-19 cases confirmed in long-term care staff, and 43 confirmed in hospital staff.

The provincial average for lab-confirmed cases is 50.3 cases per 100,000 people. In Simcoe Muskoka, the average is lower at 24.7 cases per 100,000.

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit is reporting 54 reported recoveries, 47 people self-isolating, 19 isolated at Bradford Valley, 11 people hospitalized, and eight deaths linked to COVID-19. In total, there have been 141 confirmed cases of the virus (including recoveries and deaths).

Those who have died with the virus include two men in Barrie in their 70s, an Orillia couple in their 70s and 80s, a Wasaga Beach man in his 70s, an Oro-Medonte man in his 70s, a man in his 90s who was a resident at Bradford Valley long-term care facility, and a Muskoka Lakes man in his 80s.

The case breakdown for towns and cities in Simcoe County is as follows: Bradford W-G (36), Barrie (28), New Tecumseth (17), Orillia (10), Collingwood (7), Innisfil (5), Springwater (4), Midland (4), Wasaga Beach (4), Oro-Medonte (3), Adjala-Tosorontio (2), Clearview (2), Essa (2), Ramara (2), Tiny (2), Penetanguishene (1).

There are also 12 cases confirmed in the Muskoka Region, including Gravenhurst (5), Huntsville (4), Muskoka Lakes (2), and Lake of Bays (1).
