The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has declared COVID-19 outbreaks at two Barrie long-term care homes.

The health unit is reporting outbreaks at Woods Park Care Centre, and IOOF (Odd Fellow and Rebekah Home).

The health unit will declare the outbreak after just one positive test result in a staff member or resident. Based on the case listings for Barrie, it doesn’t appear any residents have been confirmed positive for COVID-19.

According to the most recent statistics, there are seven more cases listed for Barrie, but they include six people in their 20s and a woman in her 60s. Three of the cases are community acquired and four are close-contact transmissions.

There have been 60 cases reported in Barrie and 26 people have recovered. Three remain in hospital and two have died.

The only other active outbreak of COVID-19 at a long-term care home in Simcoe County is at Bradford Valley Care Community where seven residents have died, and another 22 have tested positive for the virus.

More information on the Barrie outbreaks is expected today following this afternoon's media call with Dr. Charles Gardner, medical officer of health with the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit.
