One resident living at Raglan Square, part of Raglan Village Adult and Retirement Community in Collingwood, has tested positive for COVID-19.

The single positive case prompted the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit to declare an outbreak on Dec. 12 in the Raglan Square portion of the community.

According to provincial requirements during COVID-19, an outbreak must be declared at a long-term care or retirement home where one single case of COVID-19 is confirmed through a test.

Brandon Roi, the executive director of Raglan Village, said the resident who tested positive is currently asymptomatic and was tested as part of routine surveillance testing. All other results from the recent round of testing were negative, said Roi.

"We've been in touch with residents, staff, and families," Roi told CollingwoodToday in a phone interview Dec. 13. He noted he is in contact with the health unit on a daily basis. "The safety of those who live here is our first priority."

He said the Village is following all public health guidelines and staff are "well-trained" in precautionary measures and infection control.

There will be no visitors allowed at Raglan Square because of the outbreak declaration.
