Health unit confirms 36 new COVID cases today, including Collingwood man

This is the highest number of cases reported in a single day by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has confirmed 36 new cases of COVID-19 in the region today, including 14 connected to the outbreak at Simcoe Manor long-term care home in Beeton. 

There is one new case in Collingwood, a man between 45 and 64 years old whose transmission remains under investigation. 

The latest Simcoe Manor cases include nine women and three men over the age of 80, and a man and a woman between 65 and 79 years old. The home is owned and operated by the County of Simcoe. According to an update from the county yesterday afternoon there were 24 resident cases and seven staff cases. Three residents have died, including an 88-year-old man, a 92-year-old woman and a 98-year-old man. 

In Barrie, there are nine new cases including a girl under 18 years old. There are two community-acquired cases – a man between 18 and 34 years old, and a woman between 35 and 44 years old. There is one close contact case in Barrie involving woman between 45 and 64 years old. The remaining five Barrie cases are under investigation and involve three women between 18 and 34 years old, and a man and a woman between 45 and 64 years old. 

In Innisfil, there are five new cases including one man between 65 and 79 whose case is linked to a workplace outbreak. There is one close contact case in Innisfil involving a man between 18 and 34 years old. The remaining three cases are under investigation and include a man and a woman between 18 and 34 years old and a woman between 65 and 79 years old. 

In Bradford West Gwillimbury, there are two new cases including a girl under 18 (close contact) and a woman between 45 and 64 years old (under investigation). 

In Essa, there are also two new cases, both under investigation, including a man between 18 and 34 years old and a man between 45 and 64 years old. 

The final case is a Huntsville woman between 45 and 64 years old whose case was community-acquired. 

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported a total of 992 cases of COVID-19. There are now 855 cases listed as recovered. There are 93 active cases in the region, and one person is currently hospitalized with the coronavirus in Simcoe County. The health unit has recorded 39 deaths, but that total does not include two residents from Simcoe Manor whose deaths were announced by the county yesterday.
