There are now 50 lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Simcoe Muskoka, and there was another death attributed to the virus over the weekend.

A man in his 80s died at Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital (OSMH). His death is the fourth attributed to the virus in the region.

There have been no additional cases reported in Collingwood residents. One Collingwood man in his 50s tested positive for the virus and his case was reported on March 20. He is self-isolating at home.

Ontario saw its largest-ever single-day jump with 351 lab-confirmed cases reported by the province this morning.

The total number of Ontario cases is 1,706, which is nearly double the number of cases five days ago (March 26) when it was 858.

There are at least 23 deaths in Ontario attributed to COVID-19, but based on what regional health units have announced, the number is closer to 30.

Collingwood General and Marine Hospital and Bay Haven nursing home have put out a public call for personal protective equipment such as masks, gloves, gowns, and goggles. They are asking for items in packages and original boxes to be left at the front door.
