Collingwood General and Marine Hospital has confirmed its second positive COVID-19 result.

The hospital announced today the confirmed case was found in a 54-year-old from the GTA who visited the hospital's emergency department on March 13.

The patient had both a travel history and close contact with someone confirmed positive for COVID-19. The patient was sent home to self-isolate and the hospital is reporting they returned to the GTA “immediately.”

CGMH has followed up with the emergency physician and employees who cared for the patient, and is reporting they followed proper guidelines and best practice, wearing the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

“We are proud of the continued professionalism of our physicians and employees in treating all of our patients,” said Norah Holder, CGMH president and CEO in a press release. “They continue to work tirelessly with compassion and expertise to care for their patients and their community.”

The hospital is reiterating messages from the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit, other health units, and all levels of government and urging people to practice social distancing and staying at home.

“The CGMH team is doing everything possible to care for our community but the community needs to help keep our team safe by following Government directives,” said Holder in a press release. “The lives of everyone in our community depend on each one of us being socially responsible at this unprecedented time of world pandemic.”
