The Town of Collingwood will be closing its arenas and pool to users as a result of the province-wide shutdown announced yesterday.

Chief Administrative Officer Sonya Skinner told council last night staff will close the facilities to users, but will continue with maintenance to keep the pool and rinks usable for now.

"Senior staff are meeting to look at other services," said Skinner during the Dec. 21 council meeting. "We're looking at the outdoor rink and how we could do enhanced trail maintenance so people have other options."

She also noted the Art of Winter festival was created to comply with the province's former COVID-19 Response colour-coded framework's grey/lockdown restrictions. The festival centres around an online downloadable passport with suggestions for at home or outdoor activities that can be done with members of your household.

"Independent of the province's announcement [of a shutdown], we had made the decision to close customer service counters and non-essential town offices between Christmas and New Year's," added Skinner.

She said official announcements are pending from the town and will be posted to the town's website and social media pages as decisions regarding local closures or changes are made.
