About 48 hours after declaring a two-month outbreak over, the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has declared another outbreak at Simcoe Manor in Beeton.
On Nov. 28, the health unit declared a new outbreak due to one positive COVID-19 staff case at the long-term care home in New Tecumseth.
“This is disappointing news after declaring the outbreak over last week; however, we are pleased that this case was detected early, and due to our cohorting procedures, the health unit has only placed the Essa care unit in outbreak,” reads a news release posted to the Simcoe County website.
The health unit reported the outbreak to the public on Tuesday.
According to the release, the staff member was asymptomatic and is believed to have contracted the virus in the community. They tested negative for COVID-19 the week prior through mandatory testing at the home.
The positive test result was identified through the weekly routine testing for all staff that occurred on Nov. 25. The staff member was tested again on Nov. 28 with results pending.
While staff have implemented enhanced monitoring, all other care units remain out of quarantine at this time.
