Rosie

Hi friends, my name is Rosie. I'm a beautifully fluffy girl here at GTHS to find a loving new home. At 10 months old and about 50lbs already, I'm sure to be a pretty good sized dog as I continue to grow until "adulthood".

And, did I mention fluffy? Hehe, I am one furry lady (who is finding this Southern Ontario weather to be a touch warm, if I'm being honest!)

Since my time here at GTHS, I've really warmed up to all the humans that I see here every day and sure do love a good snuggle session! Sometimes they have to remind me that I'm a bit too big to be a lap dog...oops.

Instead, I'll just lean my entire body into you so you know how much I enjoy when you give me those good head and back scratches.

I'm still just a young pup though, so am still working on mastering my basic doggie commands and good girl manners. So, it'll be important for me to find a patient human who is prepared to work with me and help me become the best Rosie I can be!

Don't you worry though, I'm a VERY smart girl and learn things very quickly! I'll be doing fancy tricks in no time if that's something you want to teach me because I'm just so clever.

So, even though I'm beautiful and charming and a bit of a smarty pants, just please do keep in mind that I'm still a young puppy who needs routine and structure.

I will let you know that I was adopted out briefly and was a very good and loving girl, but it turns out I do have a few behaviours that I need to work on and will need to ensure I find humans with experience to help me learn what is appropriate and what's not!

Due to these behaviours, it will be important that I find a home with no kitties please, no humans under 18 years old and a nice fenced backyard will be a must! Let me explain why these things will be so important...

I've been making lots of progress on my leash skills here at GTHS but do sometimes get a little "jumpy and mouthy" on the humans when I get excited but I'm learning that's not good puppy manners! So, I'm trying to do better!

I've been a very polite girl with the other dogs I've met here at GTHS, but I should tell you that in my previous home, before GTHS, I did NOT like it when the other doggies I lived with came near me during meal time. The GTHS humans haven't seen any signs of this behaviour since I've been here at the Animal Centre but they do say it's something important for my next family to know, just in case there is another doggie in the home or another doggie who may spend time with me frequently.

Don't worry though, the GTHS humans have lots of great information on this that they can share with my new family to set us all up for success!

OH! And I guess you're probably wondering about this whole "Special Paws" thing, right?!

Well, turns out I also have this silly thing that the humans refer to as Heartworm. I know, I know...sounds scary but I'm on a great treatment plan to make sure it goes away and that I have a long, healthy life ahead of me! That said, I will need to go home with humans who are able to follow doc's orders and help me with my medication, future doctor appointments and treatment instructions.

So, Special Paws means that I'm going home with some medication and special instructions for my humans. To help me find that perfect home, my adoption fee is also lowered to $100!

So, this is where a balance becomes very important. I'm a young and energetic girl, but due to my Heartworm treatment, it's extremely important that my exercise is restricted. So, I bet you're wondering how I'm supposed to ditch all my puppy energy then, right?!

Well, I will need owners who can understand that because I am on restricted exercise , I will require other alternative mental stimulation to keep my mind busy. Different enrichment and brain games are a great way to do this and the GTHS humans can give you lots of great suggestions.

It will also be important for my humans to understand that because I can't run and play, they will really need to commit to working with my mouthing behaviour (and occasional bursts of excitability that results in me forgetting my manners and jumping up on people...oopsie...)

So please, please don't get upset with me. I'm not trying to be naughty! But when you're young, full of energy and zest for life but not allowed to run and play... it can get very challenging and frustrating. So I'm just asking you be patient with me and help me learn. I promise, in the end and once this treatment is over, it will be SO worth it!

Oh and I'm a HUGE lover of the outdoors! This is where the fenced backyard comes in. There is nothing I love more than lounging outside. And once I'm set free from my exercise restrictions, I hope my family is ready to take me on LOTS of outdoor adventures! Walks, runs, hikes, bikes, swims... you name it and I'm game! So, although we won't be out tearing it up together at first, an active family will be important in the long run.

Overall, I'm just a sweet, loving and smart young girl looking for my perfect person. I know I'll require a little extra...attention...while we get rid of this stinkin’ Heartworm but what's a little medication and extra training if it means a lifetime of fun and love and happiness together!

My adoption fee is $100 and includes my spay, Heartworm treatment, up to date vaccinations, de-wormer and a microchip.

So, come on, hurry up and find me so we can start our fun new life together!

Wags and snuggles,
xoxo Rosie
