Thornbury Density & Intensification Study Project Update & Survey Results

The Town of The Blue Mountains would like to provide residents with a project update regarding the status and survey results of the Thornbury Density and Intensification Study.

The study was initiated with a public survey to gain insight from the community about residential development specific to density, infill and intensification within Thornbury. The study will be used to help inform and prepare new policy changes at the Official Plan and Zoning By-law level and provide insight into what the Thornbury community will look and feel like.

The survey received over 250 responses, with the majority of responses from Thornbury residents. As detailed within the results, 80% of respondents agreed that increasing housing affordability and options should be a high or medium priority for the Town. The survey also concluded that maintaining the unique character of Thornbury was important to respondents. Results showed that maintaining existing green space is a priority, and new development should be compatible with the surrounding neighbourhood.

“The results of the survey will be used to help identify potential areas for intensification and how development could occur in a complimentary way,” stated Senior Policy Planner Shawn Postma. “The information will also guide policy and zoning for Thornbury as the community continues to grow.”
