As construction of the new hospital in Markdale moves forward, Grey Bruce Health Services (GBHS) is looking to compile a timeline of the history of the current hospital.
“The current building has given more than a lifetime of service and people love their old hospital,” said Gary Sims, president and CEO of GBHS in a previous interview.
The current hospital in Markdale was founded in the late-1920’s and has provided care for more than 20,000 people living in Grey Highlands, Southgate, West Grey, Chatsworth, Dundalk, Flesherton and Markdale.
In an effort to honour the Markdale Hospital, GBHS will be creating a timeline of its history and is asking the public to share their stories. To submit a memory or milestone to be included in the timeline, visit the website here.
And while the community looks back on the memories of the current building, construction is progressing at the site of the new Markdale Hospital.
Earlier this week, GBHS provided an update on the initial construction taking place at the site, noting the project contractor Bird Construction, has been doing excavation work and fencing has been installed to create a buffer between the construction site and the neighbouring properties.
In addition, sanitary sewers are being installed, and the contractor will begin laying the foundation for the new hospital by the end of the month.
“We expect that the foundation will be finished by early fall this year. We anticipate that the new hospital will open in two years, and in the meantime, services continue at our current Markdale Hospital,” stated GBHS in a news release.
