The Grey Bruce Health Unit (GBHU) is reporting four new cases of COVID-19 in the region today.

The new cases reported in the past 24-hours are located in The Town of the Blue Mountains (2), Owen Sound and Saugeen Shores.

The last case of COVID-19 reported in The Town of the Blue Mountains was on Feb.1

The health unit has reported a total of 701 cases in the region to date, and notes there are 14 active cases in both counties combined.

Active cases in Grey County are currently located in Owen Sound (5), Southgate (2), The Blue Mountains (2) and Hanover (2).

The health unit is currently tracking 28 high-risk contacts associated with active cases.

Of GBHU’s 701 cumulative cases, 685 cases have recovered.

Resolved COVID-19 cases in Grey County include: Owen Sound (110); Southgate (88); Grey Highlands (68); West Grey (49); Blue Mountains (44); Hanover (43); Meaford (23); Georgian Bluffs (7); Chatsworth (9).

This week the GBHU continued to administer the COVID-19 vaccination with a focus on retirement home residents and staff, EMS staff, highest risk and very high risk health care workers and the Indigenous community.

GBHU has currently administered 4,606 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Earlier today, the health unit announced it will begin identifying residents who are 80 years and older for eligibility for the vaccine.

“In Grey Bruce, persons 80 years of age and older are currently being identified through the health care system. All eligible persons will be contacted directly in the near future to schedule these vaccines,” said Dr. Ian Arra, medical officer of health for GBHU in a media release.

GBHU will be contacting those eligible to receive the vaccine and asks that residents do not call to try and book an appointment at this time.

For those without a primary care provider, a 1-800 number will be available to book whomever was not captured through the health care system.

“Be reassured that all eligible persons will be reached through a variety of communication channels,” Arra stated.
