Crews have returned to work to resurface the pier in Thornbury after a temporary shutdown that occurred after members of the crew were exposed to someone with COVID-19.

According to a news release from the Town of The Blue Mountains, the project completion date will be delayed to June 25 as a result. The original completion date was estimated as May 31.

Work on the pier started March 12. The town announced the shutdown on April 22, noting the exposure happened on April 20. Work has been paused since then.

Director of community services for the town, Ryan Gibbons, said the goal is to open the pier ahead of the summer season.

The project involves replacing the existing concrete deck and removing the old boat launch beside the pier.
