TBM council wages top $292k in 2021

The Town of The Blue Mountains (TBM) seven-member council cost taxpayers $292,526 in 2021.

On average, council members cost the town $41,789 each last year, with total compensation ranging from $36,413 to $50,170.

Coming out on top was Mayor Alar Soever, whose $50,170 in compensation included $39,629 in wages, $5,156 in health benefits, $3,599 for travel and computer allowance, and $1,785 in expenses.

Former deputy mayor Rob Potter, was paid the least of the council members. He died in November 2021.

His $36,413 in compensation included $25,838 in wages, $7,045 in health benefits, $3,184 for travel and computer allowance, and $344 in expenses.

The rest of council was compensated as follows:

  • Deputy mayor Peter Bordignon received $41,433 in compensation, including $29,215 in wages, $7,869 in benefits, $3,599 for travel and computer allowance, and $749 in additional expenses.
  • Paula Hope received $41,884 in compensation, including $29,215 in wages, $7,683 in benefits, $3,599 for travel and computer allowance, and $1,386 in additional expenses.
  • Andrea Matrosovs received $41,578 in compensation, including $29,215 in wages, $7,869 in benefits, $3,599 for travel and computer allowance, and $894 in additional expenses.
  • Rob Sampson received $42,072 in compensation, including $29,215 in wages, $7,683 in benefits, $3,599 for travel and computer allowance, and $1,574 in additional expenses.
  • Jim Uram received $38,971 in compensation, including $29,215 in wages, $5,861 in benefits, $3,599 for travel and computer allowance, and $295 in additional expenses.

Additional expenses may be incurred for professional development, cell phones, accommodations and meals. 

Each council member is allowed $200 per month for travel expenses related to town meetings, and is also given $100 per month as a computer allowance.

In total, council members were given $211,543 in wages, and $49,170 for health benefits.

They used $24,784 towards their travel and computer allowances, and tallied $6,677 in additional expenses.

The town's council remuneration report was brought to the Mar. 15 committee of the whole meeting for information.

Under the Municipal Act, municipalities are required to report remuneration and expenses for the previous year by Mar. 31.
