Grey Highlands council is going to invite Grey County staff to a future meeting to discuss climate change plans.

At its regular meeting on May 4, Grey Highlands council passed a resolution to invite Grey County staff to a future meeting to present the Grey County Climate Action Plan.

Councillor Cathy Little brought forward the resolution for consideration. Little said she recently attended Grey County council as an alternate when the climate plan was presented.

“I was very impressed with the plan itself,” said Little, who offered the county praise for their efforts at public engagement and scientific research on the plan.

Little said Grey Highlands is working on its own climate plan and it would be a benefit to see the county’s work.

“It makes sense to get the county in and present it at their earliest convenience,” she said.

Mayor Paul McQueen, who is also Acting Warden of Grey County, noted that the plan is already being implemented.

“At the last county council meeting we did put out tendering for two electric pick-up [trucks],” said McQueen.

Staff at Grey County said they would be thrilled to discuss the plan with council in the future.

“It’s wonderful that Grey Highlands council is interested in learning more about Going Green in Grey Climate Action Plan. This plan touches everyone in Grey County and we’re excited for any opportunity to talk about how we can all collaborate, and answer any questions our member municipalities, residents or businesses may have,” said Linda Swanston, Manager of Climate Change Initiatives with Grey County.
