36 new case of COVID-19 reported in Grey-Bruce today

There are 183 active COVID-19 cases in both Grey and Bruce counties combined and the health unit is tracking 351 high-risk contacts

The Grey Bruce Health Unit (GBHU) is reporting 36 new cases of COVID-19 today. 

The region had the highest number of new cases out of all 34 health units in the province today, based on the daily update from Public Health Ontario. 

The 36 new cases are located in: West Grey (9), Hanover (6), Owen Sound (5), Saugeen First Nation (5), South Bruce (5), Brockton (3), Meaford (2), and Grey Highlands (1).

Currently, there are 183 active cases in both counties combined, and according to Public Health Ontario, 99 per cent of those cases are considered to be the delta variant. 

Active COVID-19 cases in Grey County are currently located in Owen Sound (58), Southgate (3), Blue Mountain (1), Grey Highlands (4), Hanover (9), West Grey (9), Meaford (8), Georgian Bluffs (4) and Chatsworth (2).  

The health unit is now tracking 351 high-risk contacts associated with the active cases.

Today, the province moved into Stage 3 of its reopening plan, however, yesterday, Dr. Ian Arra, medical officer of health for the GBHU issued modified Stage 3 recommendations and is asking residents to proceed into Stage 3 with caution. 

Of GBHU’s 1,955 cumulative cases, 1,757 cases are resolved and 13 Grey-Bruce residents have died from COVID-19.

There are currently 10 confirmed cases in hospital in Grey Bruce, as well as four Grey-Bruce residents being hospitalized outside of the region.   

To-date the health unit has administered 202,313 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, 15,983 of which were administered in the past seven days.  

According to GBHU, 74.4 per cent of the eligible population in Grey Bruce has received the first dose of the vaccine and 54.4 per cent have received both doses. 

GBHU received a shipment of 29,684 vaccine doses on July 12, which will be focused on vaccine distribution to first and second dose vaccine clients via scheduled Hockey Hubs and walk-in clinics; First Nation/Metis Communities; immuno-compromised/pregnancy focused clinics; eligible priority groups; mobile clinics; and homebound.

All Ontarians aged 12 years or older are now eligible to rebook their second-dose appointments for an earlier time. Appointments can be made through the provincial online booking system for COVID-19 vaccinations at ontario.ca/bookvaccine

In addition, GBHU has an app to assist Grey-Bruce residents in booking their COVID-19 vaccine appointments. The app is available free to download from Google Play and Apple Stores for all mobile devices and tablets.
