Wasaga Beach driver charged with impaired after pedestrian struck

WASAGA BEACH - On April 3, 2020 at approximately 3:56 p.m., the Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a fail-to-remain motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian and another vehicle on River Road West, in the Town of Wasaga Beach.

An OPP member located and stopped the vehicle on River Road West. The driver was found to be under the influence of alcohol.

There were no injuries reported as a result of the collision.

Jason Benson, 34 years old of Wasaga Beach, Ont., was arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code offences:
    •    CC 320.13(1) - Dangerous operation
    •    CC 320.14(1)(a) - Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
    •    CC 320.14(1)(b) - Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
    •    CC 320(16)(1) - Failure to stop after accident (two counts)

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Collingwood on April 28, 2020.

The OPP reminds motorists to plan ahead when consuming alcohol. Use a designated driver, cab, public transit, or stay overnight. Any amount of alcohol or drugs can impact your ability to make sound judgements.
