Wasaga Beach driver accused of hitting light standard charged with impaired

OPP received multiple complaints regarding a suspected impaired driver

WASAGA BEACH - On April 1, 2020 at approximately 6:43 p.m., the Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received multiple traffic complaints regarding a possible impaired driver in the west end of Wasaga Beach. The vehicle was later reported to have struck a light standard on 41st Street and Knox Road and fled the scene. An OPP member located the vehicle and driver at an address on 45th Street South, in the Town of Wasaga Beach. The driver was found to be under the influence of alcohol.

Ryan Mifsud, 36 years old of Wasaga Beach, Ont., was arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code offences:
    •    CC 320.13(1) - dangerous operation
    •    CC 320.14(1)(a) - operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
    •    CC 320.15(1) - failure of refusal to comply with demand
    •    CC 320.18(1)(b) - operation while prohibited
    •    CC 335(1) - take motor vehicle without consent
    •    CC 430(1)(c) - mischief

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Collingwood on July 14, 2020.
