TAY TOWNSHIP - Members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched at 10:13 p.m. on Jan. 1, 2020 to a report by a motorist of a vehicle stopped and blocking the roadway of Elliot Side Road, Tay Township with an unresponsive driver.
Attending officers awoke and spoke with the driver who was arrested for Impaired Driving and after further investigation located a quantity of purple heroin and $1,700 in Canadian currency. As a result of the investigation Cody Michael Beilstein 27 years of Wasaga Beach has been charged with the following offences
- Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
- Poss of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking - Heroin contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
- Driving while under suspension - contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario
- Novice driver - presence of drug - contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario
- Interfere with traffic - contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario
- Class G1 licence holder - unaccompanied by qualified driver - contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario
The involved vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days and the accused's driver's licence has been suspended for 90 days under the conditions of the administrative drivers licence suspension (ADLS).
The accused was released from police custody on a recognizance to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland on Jan. 30, 2020. OPP officers always appreciate calls from the public to alert them of a possible impaired driver on the roadway as an essential part of the enforcement job is to save lives and reduce injuries on our roadways and trails by working with our community members.
