Traffic stop in Collingwood leads to weapon, drug charges

Three people are facing weapon and drug charges following a traffic stop Wednesday in Collingwood.

An officer with Collingwood and The Blue Mountains OPP stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation on Hurontario Street.

“During the roadside interaction with the vehicle occupants, other traffic violations committed by the passengers were identified and it was determined that there were arrest warrants for them,” police stated in a news release.

Drugs and prohibited weapons were seized, and police arrested three people.

A 45-year-old resident of The Blue Mountains has been charged with possession of a Schedule 1 substance and unauthorized possession of a weapon.

A 33-year-old resident of The Blue Mountains has been charged with possession of a Schedule 1 substance, unauthorized possession of a weapon, obstructing police and possession of a prohibited weapon contrary to a prohibition order.

A 52-year-old resident of The Blue Mountains has been charged with three counts of trafficking in a Schedule 1 substance and one count each of unauthorized possession of a weapon, failure to comply with a release order, failure to comply with a probation order and possession of a prohibited weapon contrary to a prohibition order.

All three will appear in Collingwood court at a later date.
