Tay Township man faces trespassing, assault charges

Police say accused assailant and victim were known to each other and there is no threat to public safety

CLEARVIEW TOWNSHIP, ON - On June 4, 2020, at 6:09 a.m., members of the Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of an assault that occurred in the village of Stayner, in Clearview Township. The suspect had attended an address on Highway 26 and struck the victim with a baseball bat before fleeing the scene on a bicycle.

Shortly after the call was made, an officer located the suspect nearby the residence. The suspect was arrested without incident.

As a result of the investigation, William Hendry, 45 years of age, from Tay Township, was charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • CC 177 - Trespassing at night
  • CC 264.1(1)(a) - Uttering threats - cause death or bodily harm
  • CC 267(a) - Assault with a weapon
  • CC 267(b) - Assault causing bodily harm

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Collingwood on Sept. 29, 2020.  

The involved parties were known to each other. This was an isolated incident and there is no threat to public safety.
