Single-vehicle crash leads to impaired charge for Meaford driver

GREY HIGHLANDS - On Oct. 12, 2020 at 10:29 p.m., Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a single motor vehicle collision involving a (white) pick-up truck on Grey Road 119, near Grey Road 13, in the Municipality of Grey Highlands.  

While officers were speaking with the driver, the driver showed signs of impairment and failed the approved roadside screening device test. The driver was arrested for being impaired while operating a motor vehicle and was transported to Meaford OPP detachment for a breath test.

The results of the breath test were over the legal limit of 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.

As a result of this investigation, Grey Bruce OPP have charged Adrian Brakel, 52 years of age, of Meaford, ON with operation of a motor vehicle while impaired - blood alcohol concentration over 80, section 320.14(1)(b) Criminal Code of Canada.

The accused had their drivers licence suspended for 90 days and the involved vehicle was towed and will be impounded for seven days.

The accused has been released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on Nov. 19, 2020.
