Separate crashes lead to impaired charges in Clearview, Springwater Townships

One driver is also facing weapons and drug charges

Members of the Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to two separate motor vehicle collisions which resulted in arrests.

Police were called on Jan. 18, 2021 at 10:08 p.m. to a collision where a single motor vehicle had collided with a tree on 33-34 Sideroad Nottawasaga, Clearview Township. Upon speaking to the lone occupant, officers quickly determined the driver was impaired.

Following a police investigation, Laurice Petzke (age 50) of Meaford was arrested and charged with;

  • CC 320.14(1)(c) Operation while impaired-blood drug concentration
  • CC 91(2) Unauthorized possession of a weapon
  • CC 90 Carry concealed prohibited device or ammunition
  • CDSA 4(1) Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance - cocaine
  • CDSA 4(1) Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance - opioid
  • CDSA 4(1) Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance - other drugs

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Collingwood on Feb. 9, 2021.

On Jan.19, 2021 at 6:50 p.m., police responded to a two car motor vehicle collision on County Road 92 in Springwater Township. On arrival, police determined one of the drivers to be impaired.

Following a police investigation, Philip Moore, 29, of Orillia was arrested and charged with;

  • CC 320.14(1)(b) Operation while impaired-blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Collingwood on Feb. 16, 2021.

The OPP reminds motorists to plan ahead when consuming alcohol. Use a designated driver, cab, public transit, or stay overnight. Any amount of alcohol or drugs can impact your ability to make sound judgments.
