Second degree murder charge added in death of missing man

PORT ELGIN - As a result of a missing person report from Dec. 20, 2017, the Saugeen Shores Police Service and the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) West Region Crime Unit, under the direction of Detective Inspector Paula Milne of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) have laid additional charges.

Officers located the deceased body of Nolan Panchyshyn, 20-years-old, during the search of a property near the village of Dornoch. 

David Beattie, 22-years-old, of Chatsworth Township was initially charged with

  • Indignity to a dead body, contrary to section 182(2) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Fail to comply with probation, contrary to section 733.1(1) of the CC.

As a result of the ongoing investigation, Beattie was arrested on Oct. 22, 2018 and additionally charged with second degree murder, contrary to section 229 of the Criminal Code (CC).

The accused is scheduled to appear by video at the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on Nov. 6, 2018. This case is subject to a court ordered publication ban.
