HURONIA WEST - On this coming Canada Long Weekend members of the Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police will be out once again striving to ensure your travels both on our roadways and waterways are safe during our Nation's Birthday.

From Friday, June 29 to Monday, July 2, 2018 Huronia West OPP members will be out not only in our identifiable cruisers, but on foot, on bicycles, on ATVs and in the water on our marine unit. On land we will be looking for the Big 4 collision causal agents; Distracted Driving, Impaired Operation, Aggressive Driving and Seat Belt Compliance. On the water we will be looking for again Impaired Operation, that the vessel has the required safety equipment on board and that the operator obeys the specific marine legislation.

We will again be conducting our positive 'Strict is Fair' initiative to further enhance the safety of both residents and visitors on this long weekend.

As a result of this policy the police have seen a positive change in the attitude of visitors towards our community. "Strict is Fair" is easily defined; if you break the law, you will probably be charged! The Huronia West OPP asks all motorists to be patient and courteous while driving this long weekend.

Members of the Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police are committed to public safety, delivering proactive and innovative policing in partnership with our communities. Officers value your contribution to building safe communities.
