Within two hours on Saturday night (March 11) local Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers stopped and charged a driver in Thornbury and a driver in Collingwood with drinking and driving related offences.

According to a news release from Collingwood and The Blue Mountains OPP, an officer on patrol pulled over a vehicle on First Street that did not have its lights on.

"A vehicle stop was initiated where it was found that the driver was under the influence of alcohol," stated the OPP news release. A 30-year-old driver from Collingwood was charged with operation of a vehicle while impaired, having a blood alcohol content above zero while being a novice driver, and driving without proper rear lights. The driver faces the charges in court on April 25.

Shortly after midnight on the same night, officers on patrol in Thornbury noticed a vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign at Louisa Street and Elma Street in Thornbury, according to police.

Officers investigated and charged the 28-year-old driver from Meaford with operation of a motor vehicle while impaired and disobeying a stop sign. The driver will face the charges in court on April 20.
