Social media can be a great way to stay connected to friends and family and to meet new connections. Unfortunately, it’s also a great place for fraudsters looking to carry out a romance scam.

Romance scams may start out looking like any other friendship or relationship. But if you’ve never talked to this person on the phone, you’ve never met in person, and they ask you for money, financial details, or other private personal information, consider how well you really know the person you’re chatting with.

Romance scams are among the most common frauds reported and can be devastating emotionally as well as financially.

Carefully consider any offers, threats or requests received, even if they’re from someone you consider a friend or a partner.

March is Fraud Prevention Month and throughout the month we’ll be sharing Fraud Alerts and additional information on how to recognize, reject and report fraud. Visit this website for more information.
