Police impound tractor in drunk driving incident

A man's licence has been suspended, and his tractor impounded, while he faces impaired driving charges

TINY TOWNSHIP - Members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police were dispatched in the afternoon of June 5, 2019, to a report of an impaired driver operating a farm tractor in the Balm Beach area of Tiny Township.

The suspect male driver was located by an OPP officer heading northbound on Tiny Beaches Road North on a Kubota farm tractor.

Upon speaking with the driver the officer entered into a drinking and driving investigation resulting in Nolan Ritchie, 57 years old of Christian Island, being charged with the following criminal code driving offenses:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Driving while prohibited

Contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

The tractor was towed from the scene and impounded for 45 days and his driver's licence has been suspended for 90 days under the administrative drivers licence suspension (ADLS) program.

He was held in police custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on June 6, 2019 in Midland.
