The Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police detachment announced today they have laid fraud charges against a Hamilton man after a string of events beginning with a vehicle in the ditch.

According to the area OPP, officers responded to a call about a vehicle in a ditch off Grey Road 7 in the Municipality of Meaford at 7:51 a.m. on Feb. 22.

"As the day went on, officers responded to other calls for service involving the same vehicle," states the OPP news release. "It was discovered that the vehicle had been sold via what is believed to be a fraudulent transaction using an online buy and sell site."

Police arrested a 27-year-old person from Hamilton and charged them with two counts of fraud over $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

The accused was released, and will face the charges in court later.

The Grey Bruce OPP would like to take this opportunity to remind the public of resources available to better understand frauds and scams in their area.
