THE BLUE MOUNTAINS – Officers from the Collingwood and The Blue Mountains detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) teamed up with the OPP Central Region Snow machine, All terrain vehicle and Vessel Enforcement (SAVE), the OPP Central Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Team (CRTIME) and the West Region Ministry of Transportation officers to conduct a one-day CMV safety blitz.

The Collingwood and The Blue Mountains area highways/roadways continue to see a considerable presence of commercial motor vehicles. Due to their size, weight and loads, commercial motor vehicles have increased potential of causing serious motor vehicle collisions due to several factors including vehicle mechanical fitness, driver fatigue, improper licencing and/or driver behaviour.

As a result of the initiative, members stopped 66 commercial vehicles, issued 44 charges for various offences, issued seven warnings and took 10 commercial vehicles out of service for serious mechanical issues.

OPP officers would like to thank all the safe and professional CMV drivers/owners who keep their vehicles mechanically fit and drive prudently which in turn helps us ensure road safety for everyone.
