OPP responds to five collisions over the weekend

Officers from the Collingwood and The Blue Mountains detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to 93 calls for service over the weekend including:

  • Seven domestic dispute incidents, none resulting in charges but officers had to step in and assist in keeping the peace and diffuse the situation in some cases.
  • Two calls for service for dogs being left in cars, in both cases the dog was not in distress and no charges were laid but no doubt the owner was informed of the dangers of leaving pets in vehicles.
  • Officers also responded to an incident of mischief to a ceramic mural which took place at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 21 2018. The mural is located on an exterior wall facing a vacant lot on Hurontario Street, between Second Street and Third Street in Collingwood.   • Twelve calls for 911 accidental dials.
  • Four motor vehicle collisions, one took place at Highway 26 and Grey Road 19 and resulted in a driver being charged with careless driving. Another at Bruce Street and Bridge Street East in Thornbury where a driver was charged as well under the Highway Traffic Act. No injuries in any of the collisions.
  • Five noise complaints related to noisy neighbours
  • Officers also conducted numerous RIDE initiatives resulting in many motorists being stopped, however no charges laid.
  • Officers also responded to a theft of a motorcycle and motorcycle trailer which took place sometime between July 19 and July 21 2018 at a private residence on Bruce Street in Thornbury. The trailer is described as a being custom made and able to accommodate three motorcycles, is red in colour with aluminum fenders. The motorcycle is described as a 1994 Suzuki Katana 600, black in colour with blue graphics and purple wheels. No plate numbers were available at the time of this media release. The remaining calls for service included unwanted persons, traffic complaints and family disputes.
