Midland man charged in relation to recent thefts

The charges stem from recently reported vehicle entries and thefts
opp - too small!

MIDLAND - On Aug. 22, 2018 at members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Southern Georgian Bay detachment along with members of the OPP Community Street Crime Unit were following up on numerous investigations in relation to recently reported area vehicle entries and thefts. Investigators were able to locate and arrest Matthew Cascanette, 19 years, of Midland in relation to some of these property crimes and charged him with the following criminal code offences
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 - in Canada contrary to section 354 (1) (a) of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Fail to Comply with Recognizance contrary to section 145(3) of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Use of Credit Card contrary to section 342(1)(c)of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Theft Under $5,000 from a Motor Vehicle contrary to section 334(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada

He was held to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie for bail court and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a future date in Midland.
