Man accused of wielding an axe in attempted bank robbery at Wasaga

WASAGA BEACH, ON - On June 4 2019 at 4:30 p.m. members from the Huronia West and Central Region Traffic Unit of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) uniform and Crime Unit responded to reports of an attempted bank robbery.

Details provided were that the incident involved a single male suspect wielding an axe at a local bank on Mosley Street in Wasaga Beach.

Police investigation determined a single male suspect attempted to enter the local bank armed with an axe. The male was unsuccessful in his attempt to steal anything.

The male fled the scene and was arrested a short time later. There were no injuries sustained as a result of the incident.

Charles Fernandes, 29-years-old, of Wasaga Beach has been charged with:

Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

  • Robbery with Violence
  • Breach of recognizance
  • Fail to comply with probation order
  • Possession break in instruments
  • Mischief over $5000

The accused was held for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie.
