Investigation continues into missing Wasaga man

Richard Kocik was reported missing on July 7, 2020, police called off the official search on July 14, but the investigation continues

WASAGA BEACH – On July 7, 2020, at 6:51 a.m., members of the Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a missing person from an address on George Avenue, in the Town of Wasaga Beach. 

The male was identified as Richard Kocik, 54 years of age, of Wasaga Beach, Ontario. Richard was last seen by his family at approximately 11p.m., on the evening of July 6, 2020. It was believed that he left the residence on foot, and a clothing description could not be determined. Richard is described as:   

  • 5'11" tall  
  • medium build 
  • goatee with mustache 
  • shoulder-length salt-and-pepper coloured hair
  • footprint tattoo on his left arm, a heart tattoo on his left chest, and a family crest tattoo on his left shoulder 

OPP Aviation Services, Central Region Emergency Response Team (ERT), Central Region Canine (K9), and OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU) had been in the area on foot, ATV, in boats, and in the air until the search was discontinued on July 14. 

Richard remains missing at this time. The investigation will remain open, and continue under the direction of the Huronia West Crime Unit.  Anyone with information or surveillance footage regarding this investigation is asked to contact the Huronia West OPP Detachment at 705-429-3575.
