Innisfil man gets drug-impaired driving charge after hit and run with farm tractor

A 57-year-old Innisfil man faces several charges including drug-impaired driving after a hit and run collision involving a farm tractor.

On Monday, Oct. 28, 2019, around 6:30 p.m., South Simcoe Police Service received several calls regarding an impaired driver in the area of 10th Sideroad and 14th Line in Innisfil.  

Witnesses reported that a northbound pickup truck had rear-ended a farm tractor and fled the scene at a high rate of speed with significant damage to the pickup.  The truck eventually stopped in the Belle Ewart area where the driver was arrested after fleeing on foot.  

He was transported to the hospital as a precaution then taken to South Division where he was charged after an evaluation by a Drug Recognition Expert.  The driver of the tractor was treated at the scene and released but later attended hospital for his injuries.

As a result of investigation, a 57-year-old Innisfil man was charged with impaired driving, failure to stop after accident, dangerous operation and failure or refusal to comply with demand.   His licence was suspended for 90 days.  He was released with a future court date.
