Collingwood woman dead after Highway 26 collision

4:45 p.m. update:

Police have confirmed that the collision on Highway 26 near Fraser Crescent at 8:00 a.m. today was fatal.

The crash involved two vehicles colliding head-on. 

Collingwood/The Blue Mountains OPP are reporting that a 60-year-old female from Collingwood was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash.

The other involved driver was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries.  

Police are continuing to investigate the collision. 

Police say Highway 26 is now reopened.

Original 10:52 a.m. story:

A portion of Highway 26 is closed this morning and for an 'extended period' because of a vehicle collision this morning. 

Constable Martin Hachey of the Collingwood/The Blue Mountains OPP said the collision occurred around 8 a.m. this morning on Highway 26 near Fraser Crescent. The crash involved two vehicles colliding head-on. 

The highway is closed between Grey Road 19 and Lakeshore Road. 

"It will remain as such for an extended period of time while our technical collision investigators are on scene," said Hachey. 

He said the investigation is ongoing and there was no word yet on the extent of the injuries sustained by those involved in the crash.  

OPP recommend you avoid the area.
