Elderly driver found unresponsive following head-on crash

Officers from the Collingwood and The Blue Mountains detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated a crash involving two vehicles yesterday in Collingwood which resulted in one party being sent to an area hospital.

On Nov. 25, 2018 at approximately 12:45 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Second Street and Spruce Street in Collingwood for a two-vehicle head on crash. Investigation revealed that a Mazda was south bound on Spruce Street when it went into the oncoming lane and collided with a north bound Ford SUV.

The driver of the Mazda, an 84-year-old male from Collingwood was unresponsive at the scene, however efforts from first responders led to him regaining consciousness and being transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, however it is believed that a medical condition may have been a contributing factor.
