A drug bust announced today by Collingwood OPP is likely one of the largest ever in the community according to the local detachment commander.

Police raided homes in Collingwood, Wasaga Beach, and the GTA on April 30 and seized over 1.4 kilograms of cocaine, approximately 180 grams of fentanyl/carfentanyl, 27 grams of psilocybin/mushrooms, drug paraphernalia and over $27,500 in cash, two handguns and ammunition.

Inspector Mary Shannon, detachment commander for Collingwood and The Blue Mountains OPP, confirmed all of the drugs seized came from the Collingwood residence.

“It is likely one of the biggest drug seizures we have had in this community,” said Insp. Shannon.

She said it was a lengthy investigation and gave kudos to the officers involved.

“It just demonstrates to our communities that our investigations have not stopped,” said Shannon. “I cannot commend my officers enough for their diligence.”

She also noted the seizure of the drugs is significant for the safety of the public to prevent death and overdose by people in the community.

“Most important, were the items that were seized,” said Shannon. “We cannot measure the impact of getting drugs of that volume off our streets. We will not be able to measure the lives saved.”

The inspector was unable to confirm if the cash and guns were also seized at the Collingwood residence or if they came from one of the other raid locations.

Police confirmed they executed warrants at three separate residences on April 30 in Collingwood, Wasaga Beach and Toronto area with support from special units and arrested three people including two Collingwood residents and one man from North York.

Neighbours nearby the Collingwood residence said the raid took place around 1 a.m.
